NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
On her twitter page Rachelle writes, I'm a literary agent and I love books, writers, and publishers. I'm also a real person, as evidenced by my tweets about my dog. And Nutella.
She also did graduate studies in psychology, so a protag as a psychologist or a counselor might pique her interest.  Rachelle also shared that: Christian publishers are primarily located in Colorado, Nashville and the Chicago area (a fact I personally found interesting)...just a little tidbit of extra info.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Rachelle is interested in all genres and is looking for books that don’t contradict a Christian worldview. In an interview Rachelle said, "I’ve always read heavily in commercial women’s fiction. I can’t get enough of authors like Anita Shreve, Jodi Picoult, Elizabeth Berg, Anne Tyler and Sue Miller."
AGENT ALERT:  Of the above authors, Rachelle said, "I’d love to represent authors like that if I can."

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Fantasy and Sci-Fi

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Rachelle (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

“Read and share. I think it is critical to really read and analyze published books that are similar to what you want to write and really study them to see how the successful authors are doing it. How do the successful authors in your area develop characters? Give backstory? Create tension? Keep pacing up? POV? Voice? Develop setting?”
– Jill Marsal of Marsal Lyon Literary Agency

ONE THOUSAND GIFTS - Ann Voskamp
BITTERSWEET - Shuana Niequist
BLUE LIKE JAZZ - Donald Miller

Karen's clients includes: Francine Rivers, Karen Kingsbury, Sharon Ewell Foster, Liz Curtis Higgs, Ginny Yttrup, Angela Hunt, Robin Jones Gunn, Robin Lee Hatcher, Brandilyn Collins, and many others.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Karen lives in Oregon with her husband, father, and two four-legged, furry “kids.”  Including West Coast elements and animals in your story might make her want to read more.  As a side note, while her Christian life comes first and foremost, Karen is both a proud gun owner and Karate aficionado...include these elements in your story and you might pique her interest.  Karen has also stated: I’m happy to consider proposals from new, unpublished authors, so long as you’ve done your homework (meaning you’ve been to writers’ conferences, had your work critiqued, done the work of revising and refining so that the craft is as good as you can get it).

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
In Karen's own words:  I want to work with authors whose books will change lives. Who bring the depth and wealth of their own spiritual journeys to whatever they are writing. I long for books, whether fiction or nonfiction, that are filled with authenticity, vulnerability, and powerful truth. Second, what I’m most interested in is writing, as the title of this post says, that sings. That calls to my heart and mind, that draws me in and, in the process, changes me.  As a writer, editor, and now agent, fiction makes me dance. I love the power of story, the wonder of words that create a world and characters that transport me and leave me better for the journey. So I’m definitely interested in writers crafting wonderful novels. And I’m open to all genres.

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Karen (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.
