David made specific mention of these books/authors:
THE ORPHAN MASTER’S SON - Adam Johnson
GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING - Tracy Chevalier
WOLF HALL - Hilary Mantel
SHADOW OF THE WIND - Carlos Ruiz Zafón

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
David attended Boston University.  Having your protag hail from his Alma mater might spark his interest.  In an interview, David revealed that as a child he enjoyed Man O’War ("obsessively reading it over and over again").  He has worked alongside with UK agents representing authors Val McDermid, Mo Hayder, Mark Billingham, John Harvey, Peter Temple, and Minette Walters (major crime writers).

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
David said in an interview that he is looking for stories that are fresh and innovative  - and if the ending made me cry that would be a bonus.  Oh, and it wouldn’t have any typos on the first fifty pages.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books David (or his agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that he and/or his agency are looking for.  David has also listed several books he's enjoyed reading along with a nice client list - check them out, too.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that line dividing Agents and Publishers.  Agents are those people listed here on this web page.  Publishers, such as Random House, Hyperion, Harlequin, Simon & Schuster, Hachette/Warner and the Penguin Group (to name a very limited few) are those houses to whom the agent will sell the story.  So it's a four-step process:  Your creative mind - to the agent - to the publisher - to the market.

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Crime, Nancy will also accept Thrillers, Mysteries, Suspense; Historical Fiction and Historical Suspense; and Women’s Fiction of all kinds.  Nancy also has a fondness for a good ghost story and southern fiction.
DREAMS OF THE DEAD - Perri O'Shaughnessy
HER LAST BREATH - Linda Castillo
FRIDAY'S DAUGHTER - Patricia Sprinkle
THE TAMING OF RYDER CAVANAUGH - Stephanie Laurens
DREAM WITH LITTLE ANGELS - Michael Hiebert

Nancy's clients include: Stephanie Laurens, Loretta Chase, Liz Carlyle, Suzanne Enoch,  Gaelen Foley, Jeaniene Frost, Ilona Andrews, Monica Ferris, Miranda James, and Tamar Myers.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
I could not find a ton of personal information about Nancy.  Her Twitter and Facebook pages are very author driven, not revealing a lot of "home life" info.  She's given clear information about the kind of fiction she's looking for, and I would recommend reading a few of her published books.  At least you do have a full list of books published and clients. smile*

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Nancy is primarily looking for writers of commercial fiction.  The good news is she accepts a nice variety of commercial fiction.  Nancy also mentioned she has a fondness for a good ghost story and southern fiction.  She is looking for books that are tight with atmosphere, intelligence and humor.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Nancy (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

ETHAN BASSOFF | Crime/Thriller/Detective
Lippincott Massie McQuilkin

Blog(s):  N/A

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Crime, Ethan will also accept Literary Fiction
THE SLEEPY HOLLOW FAMILY ALMANAC - Kris D'Agostino
FOLLOW HER HOME - Steph Cha
Agency publications:
THE GOOD HOUSE - Ann Leary
AN UNTAMED STATE - Roxane Gay
FIVES AND TWENTY-FIVES - Michael Pitre
MRS. LINCOLN'S DRESS MAKER - Jennifer Chiaverini

Ethan's clients include: Kris D'Agostino, Amber Dermont, Michael Chorost

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Ethan attended Emerson College.  Having a protag hail from his Alma mater might pique his interest.  At one point in time he also managed Brookline Booksmith, a prominent Boston bookstore - a setting (bookstore) and/or protag in that line of work might capture Ethan's interest.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Tell a compelling story.  I know that sounds vague and richly generic, but in a bio-blurb Ethan mentioned: Great ideas must also tell compelling stories.  A small insight might be Ethan's non-fiction interest's...history, sports writing, journalism, science writing, pop culture, humor, and food writing...all potential cross-over when writing a good fiction piece.
AGENT ALERT:  Ethan keeps store browsers in mind when signing new authors.  **The next time you're in a bookstore check out a few 'front of the store' books on display...that's what Ethan is looking for!

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Thrillers/Suspense, Steven will also accept Mystery, Fantasy (paranormal), Romance, Chick Lit, Women's Fiction, and Young Adult.
CHINA TRADE – S.J. Rozan
HUSH – Anne Frassier
SURRENDER -  Amanda Quick

Steven's clients include:  S.J. Rozan, Christine Feehan, J.R. Ward and Julia Quinn, Jayne Ann Krentz, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Suzanne Brockmann and Catherine Anderson.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Prior to agenting, Steven was an editor at The Literary Guild, managing editor at Harcourt Brace and a reader for a number of paperback houses.  He might find it interesting if your protag engaged in this line of work or if your story setting were in this field.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Mr. Axelrod has an elusive presence on the web.  I could not find any social media sites and only one bio.  Even thought it's my standard recommendation for all agents, I would definitely encourage you to read at least one of his books to get an idea of what he is looking for.  If it helps any, some of his recent deals include 7 women’s/romance and 1 paranormal.

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Picture books, screenplays, high fantasy.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Definitely read at least one (preferably two) of the books Steven (or his agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that he and/or his agency are looking for.
