MELISSA JEGLINSKI | Romance Fiction
The Knight Agency
Submissions page:  http://knightagency.net/manuscript_submissions/
Twitter:  @MJeglinski
Facebook:N/A
Blog(s):  N/A

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Romance (contemporary, category, historical, inspirational), Melissa will also accept Young Adult, Middle Grade, Women’s Fiction and Mystery
STORM - Amanda Sun
JOURNEY OF HOPE - Debbie Kaufman
A PROMISE IS FOREVER - Marilyn Pappano

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Melissa graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, so a protag hailing from her Alma mater might pique her interest.   She began her career as an editor with Harlequin Enterprises, so a protag (as an editor) or setting (at Harlequin) might be of particular interest to her.  Melissa likes all things reality TV, loves cats, mentioned Niel Diamond (favorably), and has a garden (fruit, veggie, or flower - did not say, although made mention elsewhere of tomato plants).

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
In an interview, Melissa said about Romance submissions: "I’m seeing a little too much contemporary romance without a unique twist or setting. There is a lot of that out in the market right now and you’ve got to stand out to get noticed.  I’m always looking for cozy mysteries but not seeing enough unique premises."  In that same interview, Melissa further stated, "I would love to see more Middle Grade fiction with a plot other than the MC getting a special power or going off on a wild adventure.  Something quirky but emotional or perhaps a historical setting, even something sort of creepy would be great.  I’d love to see a historical Young Adult novel or some YA Horror—true horror like Stephen King scare-me-to-death-and-give-me-nightmares horror.  I’d also be open to some historical fiction set in early 20th century as I’m a huge Downton Abbey fan."
AGENT ALERT Melissa tweeted:  "When a chapter is less than five pages, I'm always going to pass. For me, super short chapters make for a choppy read."  **So keep those chapters long and juicy when sending to this agent! Also, AVOID heroine coming back to town, reunions romances, small town setting!

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Science Fiction, fantasy, poetry or picture books.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Melissa (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

Finding the right agent is a little like hiring a personal body guard.  Will they always look out for your best interest?  Will they fight for you (earning every rightful penny) when it comes time to sign a contract?  Will they defend you (if a book critique is too harsh)?  If available, check out their client list and see what their clients have to say about them.  Your agent will be your long-term publishing partner - pick one carefully and wisely

SARAH E. YOUNGER | Romance Fiction
Nancy Yost Literary Agency
Submissions page: http://www.nyliterary.com/pages.php?c=submissions
Twitter:  @seyitsme
Facebook:  N/A
Blog(s):  N/A

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Romance, Sarah will also accept YA, Contemporary, Historical, Western, Sports, Regency, Inspirational, Category, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Suspense, Young Adult, New Adult, and any combination thereof.
UNLEASHED - Rachel Lacey
UNDENIABLE - Shannon Richard
MEET THE EARL AT MIDNIGHT - Gina Conkle
A TASTE OF CHARDONNAY - Heather Hayford

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Sarah hails from the south (she grew up on a horse farm in a small town in North Carolina) and cherishes her rural southern roots.  She particularly enjoys stories with a supporting cast of animal characters: horses, dogs, cats; essentially all pets furry and friendly.  A protag from the south and/or a setting in the south will most likely pique her interest.  Likes an occasional glass of wine.  On her Twitter Sarah states she lives by Psalm 19:14 (Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer).  She is an avid reader of YA, Romance, and Historical Fiction.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Sarah's main attractions in submissions are: strong romantic relationships with almost visible chemistry.  The voice should be intelligent and unique. Plots should be well thought-out and original with touches of humor and whimsy.  She's always on the lookout for submissions that make her laugh (and cry).
AGENT ALERT Sarah has made it clear - Romance submissions should include strong romantic relationships where chemistry is a MUST!

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Poetry, Non-Fiction, Horror, Middle Grade, or Childrens books.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Sarah (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

==================================================

READ WHAT KRISTIN SAID IN AN INTERVIEW.  IT SO SUPPORTS TARGETED WRITING!

(and blog tagline: Where the creative means business)

A client who has made an effort to understand that publishing is a business even though writing is an art.

The question: Would you describe the ideal author/client with whom you wish to work?

=============================================================

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Kristin is a self-described 'nice, Mid-Westerner' and admits to playing Ultimate Frisbee for fun. At one point she taught college English and lives in Denver, CO. (so a protag in that profession and/or hailing from that area might pique her interest).

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
I’d love to see more literary fiction with that strong commercial bent—like Jamie Ford. Great storytelling, lovely writing, and a dynamic plot to really drive the story.  She isn't too keen on paranormal tales (stating its "too crowded"), but did confess in an interview, " I’d love something literary that has that [paranormal] touch—kind of like The Thirteenth Tale, which I loved. I would represent a book like that in a heartbeat."
AGENT ALERT:  Kristin has clearly stated:  I want literary fiction with a genre plot

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Non-Fiction, memoir, screenplays, short-story collections, poetry, childrens picture books or early reader chapter books, or material for the Christian/inspirational market.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Kristin (or her agency) has published.  This agent has really broken it down quite succinctly as to exactly what kind of writing she is looking for (even going as far as to include genre breakdown).  Reading a few of her recommended books and/or her published books will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Gail worked at The Berkley Publishing Group as the assistant to the Editor-in-Chief and by the time she resigned she was an Executive Editor.  Do some research and create a protag in this profession - it just might pique her interest.  She did state that her nonfiction interests can cover almost any subject, but history, food, and science are of particular interests - so perhaps penning a good fiction with some of these elements might capture her attention.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Every now and then I've come across a very quiet agent; little to no social medial access and almost no public interviews.  Gail is one such agent.  What I did find is her authors won six RITAs, and were nominated for Edgar and Anthony Awards. She published two Publishers Weekly Books of the Year. She was the acquiring editor for New York Times bestseller Dorothea Benton Frank. She edited many other national bestsellers in romance, mystery and narrative nonfiction.  So it's a very good bet Gail is looking for the cream of the crop.  In her own words she has stated, " I am looking for a voice that grabs me and a narrative that keeps me turning the pages. I like original voices.  Every day I hope to find great new voices, writing that jumps off the page and stories that linger long after I finish reading."
AGENT ALERT Gail has also provided a comprehensive list of books she loved and "wished she could have agented"...this is almost a dream come true for Targeted Writers!

=============================================================

READ WHAT GAIL SAID ON HER FAQ PAGE.  IT SO SUPPORTS TARGETED WRITING!

They love to read as much as we do, and they're the kind of people you'd enjoy hanging out with.
