INVISIBLE COUNTRY - Annamaria Alfieri
VICIOUS DEEP - Zoraida Cordova

Adrienne stated she would have loved to work on the following:
STORY OF A GIRL - Sara Zarr
I WANNA BE YOUR JOEY RAMONE - Stephanie Kuehnert
LOOKING FOR ALASKA - John Green

Adrienne's clients include: Caridad Ferrer and Zoraida Cordova (to name a few)

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
As taken from Adrienne's Twitter account: bff of a Monster Dog & Refugee Puppy, tea aficionado, and book devourer.   Adrienne also plays the guitar.  In an interview Adrienne said, "I want a well-defined protagonist, multi-layered secondary characters, and a really fantastic voice."  She has also strongly hinted that a strong multi-cultural story (hint: Latino, Ecuador, Paraguay) will definitely pique her interest.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Adrienne is attracted to stories that are emotionally honest and not afraid to tackle the big issues.  In an interview she stated, "I want to read something that will really elicit an emotional response and make me cry unabashedly on the subway".  Adrienne wants to see strong voices and an authentic tone.  She’s especially drawn to dark humor and innovative takes on classic literary themes.  She’s been known to have a soft spot for Southern gothics, and has said she tends to gravitate toward mystery, paranormal, and upmarket women’s fiction.
AGENT ALERT: In an interview Adrienne stated, "I’d love to work on something along the lines of Jackson Pearce’s Sweetly, a retelling of Hansel and Gretel".  ***This is great insight for those already composing such a piece or those who have invested in targeted writing - - start the engines!

RECOMMENDATIONS:

If a FACEBOOK page is available in your agents profile, check it out!  See up close what your agent likes, which books they've casually mentioned in a post (or a particular author), maybe even get access to favorite music, bands, area's of visit, etc. Any small bit of information can be both very revealing about the agents personal choices and assist in you in creating characters and/or settings her or she might be particularly interested in.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jenchentran
Blog(s):  N/A

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Women's Fiction, Jennifer will also accept Literary Fiction, Commercial Fiction, Upmarket Fiction, Contemporary Romance, Mature YA, New Adult, Suspense/Thriller and select graphic novels (Adult, YA or MG).

BROKEN HOMES AND GARDENTS - Rebecca Kelley

Books Jennifer LOVED reading:
The Unwanted (Kien Nguyen)
Into Thin Air (Jon Krakauer)
The Language of Flowers (Vanessa Diffenbaugh)
Chronology of Water (Lidia Yuknavitch)
The Year of Magical Thinking (Joan Didion)
Never Let me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)
American Born Chinese (Gene Luen Yang)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Milan Kundera)
Word Freak (Stefan Fastis)

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Jennifer obtained her Juris Doctor from Northeastern School of Law in Boston, MA, and a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, with a minor in Legal Studies.  To say she's one smart cookie is probably an understatement - keep your writing style clean and informative.  It might also not hurt to throw in a protag who hails from her Alma mater...it just might pique her interest.  PS - In an interview Jennifer stated, "Having a social media presence is almost always a must, so make sure I can find good things about you on the internet, whether that be essays you may have published or even your witty Twitter account. Remember that this is a business, like anything else, professionalism, courtesy, and respect will serve you well."  So keep you social media clean when you start agenting!

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Originally a visual arts major turned English major, Jennifer appreciates creativity in all its incarnations - writing a visually graphic novel (one in which the reader can almost see what's taking place right in front of them) is probably your very best bet.
AGENT ALERT In an interview Jennifer said, "As a second-generation Taiwanese-American, I am particularly interested in voices from underrepresented and marginalized communities, strong and conflicted female characters, war and post-war fiction, and writers who are adept at creating a developed sense of place. I also admire writers who have an ear for dialogue and who are not afraid to take emotional risks."  This is great information for targeted writers in this genre!

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Science fiction and fantasy

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Jennifer (or her agency) has published.  You can also read a few of her favorite books listed.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:
***In addition to Women's Fiction, Kimberly will also accept Literary Fiction, Commercial Fiction, Contemporary Romance, New Adult and YA, and Mysteries/Thriller.
ARCHER'S VOICE - Mia Sheridan
ARROW'S HELL - Chantal Fernando
DEAREST CLEMENTINE - Lex Martin
VANGAURD - C.J. Markusfeld
THE MASON LIST - S.D. Hendrickson

Books Kimberly LOVED reading:
The Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling)
The Mortal Instruments series (Cassandra Clare)
The Breathing series (Rebecca Donovan)
Pushing The Limits (Katie McGarry)

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Kimberly is a HUGE book lover - loves to read them, discuss them, and everything in between.  Reading has always been her passion, even while pursuing her business degree at California State University, Northridge and law degree at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.  Having your protag or one of your main characters hail from her Alma mater might pique her interest, but honestly, for agents like Kimberly it usually boils down to a really well-written story.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
In an interview Kimberly said, "It's the feelings the story evokes. I need to feel a connection to the characters and the story. I love finding a manuscript that I simply cannot put down."  Kimberly also likes to see characters with depth and emotion - characters that make the reader feel emotions.
AGENT ALERT In an interview Kimberly said, "Romance - I am a sucker for all things romance."  Just keep that little tidbit in mind when submitting to this agent!

Wendy Sherman | Women's Fiction

Submissions page:  http://www.wsherman.com/submission-guidelines/
Twitter:  @WendySherman
Facebook:  N/A
Blog(s): http://www.wsherman.com/blog/

RECENT BOOKS PUBLISHED:

THESE GRANITE ISLANDS - Sarah Stonich
CRAWLING AT NIGHT - Nani Power

Wendy's clients include: Howard Bahr (The Year of Jubilo: A Novel of the Civil War) and D.W. Buffa (The Judgment), among others.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS:
Wendy has worn many publishing hats over the years.  She has held senior, executive positions at Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Henry Holt.  During her tenure at these major publishing houses, she worked in the areas of subsidiary rights, marketing, sales, and editorial - so it's safe to say she knows  her way around a well-written story. As an agent,
Wendy would like to see more upmarket fiction.  In an interview she said,  "When you say literary, people think of very deep and pondering.  I say 'upmarket' because I think it's a category that's emerging in publishing today where people are reading better written books."

=============================================================

READ WHAT WENDY SAID IN AN INTERVIEW.  IT SO SUPPORTS TARGETED WRITING!

In anterview with WOW regarding her discovery of first time authors:
I’m consistently impressed by the quality of what we see. Yet, in the end, it is all about personal taste paired with what we think will sell. Keeping connected to what editors are buying is key.

=============================================================

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STORY / ELEMENTS YOUR STORY SHOULD HAVE:
Wendy has said that she loves voice and story-driven fiction. She is interested in women’s fiction that hits that sweet spot between literary and mainstream and has a passion for Southern voices, historical dramas, suspense with a well-developed protagonist, and writing that illuminates the multicultural experience.
AGENT ALERT In an interview Wendy said, ”I have a weakness for family secrets and mother-daughter relationships and love stories that make me cry.”

THIS AGENT DOES NOT REPRESENT:
Science fiction and category mysteries

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Read at least one (preferably two) of the books Wendy (or her agency) has published.  This will give you a very good 'insiders glimpse' as to exactly the kind of writing style, voice, protagonist, etc. that she and/or her agency are looking for.
